Writely, Google and me

The last weeks I’ve been using an impressing service called Writely. Writely is basically Word online with the addition of writing documents collaboratively. With no fuss I can now co-write my projects with people in Sweden or elsewhere. Writely is just so amazingly simple to use that I started using the service daily, as soon as I found it. Writely is to writing what Flickr is to photography…

The big news now though is that Writely, a fairly unknown web site, just got acquired by Google (and here). This surprised me first, but not really. It is apparent that Google and Yahoo are vacuuming the net after solutions like this. It seems more to be a matter of prestige than actual profit. To me, this have several implications. Writely will be, if possible, an even better service. But it will also be Googlified, and I’m starting to hesitate about Google owning me. Finally, this even more proves my theory that all you have to do to get rich today, or atleast get a good job, is to develop a smart, modern standards web service and before you know it you’ll be a part of Yahoo or Google. Let’s see if I will be one of those lucky ones in the future…
